Hey, there Sister,
I want to remind you to never stay small for anyone.
Life is about growth.
When you grow you simply can’t stay small.
It won’t always be easy. Those that you love might not grow at the same rate, or even choose to grow at all. You might find yourself challenging opinions and perspectives that you’ve had for your whole life. You might feel like an impostor, as you begin to change and become new.
I can tell you though that the work is worth it. The feeling on the other side of growth is so freeing, so eye-opening.
About a year ago someone said to me,
“I wish you would just talk to me. Just a normal conversation. Not like you need to feel empowered. Because that is how it comes across sometimes.”
Until today that comment bothered me and I couldn’t pinpoint why.
In the work that I have been doing on myself, I have learned that when something triggers you you need to examine the feeling. What is making you feel triggered?
And I finally figured it out! What that person said to me went against my values.
I value kindness.
I value empathy.
I value authenticity.
I often write out my thoughts before I say them to another person. Simply because I want to say it in the kindest, clearest way possible.
Ultimately, I realized this person did not align with my values. And that’s not right or wrong. It is just a truth that I’ve had to accept.
My message to you, dear friend, is to be your authentic self. Examine your triggers and figure out which value is feeling attacked. And then grow.
You don’t have to apologize for embracing your truest self.
